The Ollie forged a new identity for skateboarding after its invention in the 1970s, and it lies at the root of nearly every significant move in street skating today. The Ollie is one of the most important and controversial stories in skateboarding,surfing, board sports, and popular culture.
    • Photographers A Secret History of the Ollie, Volume 1, is an illustrated history with over 1200 images of skate culture. These images have come from a variety of sources including photographers, amateur shooters, and the skaters themselves. Some of the contributing photographers include Jim Goodrich, Lance Smith, Warren Bolster, Bruce Walker, Al Porterfield, Hunter Joslin, Jonathan Utz, Nicolas DelValle, and author Craig Snyder. Some brief biographies can be found below.
    • Author A writer, photographer, and artist, Craig Snyder grew up skating with Alan “Ollie” Gelfand and many of Florida’s other early skate stars, including Mike “McTwist” McGill and Rodney Mullen. He worked as a staff photographer for Skate Rider, was a contributor to Wave Rider, SkateBoarder, and National Skateboard Review, and has served as a consultant to numerous skate and surf-related projects and publications. Snyder’s images have been published internationally by Der Spiegel, ESPN, TransWorld Skateboarding, and Concrete Wave, and have appeared in a number of books and films. In 2011, Snyder was inducted into Florida’s Skateboard Hall of Fame.
